Basic 12-Picture AAC Activity

Basic 12-Picture AAC Activity

Description: Interested in trying some AAC with a child?  Here’s a great place to start!  Try a simple 12-picture AAC board to see if the child can use it to communicate some basic wants and needs.  You can use our pre-made board by clicking the link below or make your own board with whatever pictures you think would be helpful for the particular child you want to try it with.  Start simple by just having the child point to one picture to get something or make something happen (like “go” to blow bubbles).  If it’s too hard, you can try covering up all of the pictures except for the target.  Once the child can do that, see if he can build a simple sentence, like “I want go” or “all done that”.  Using a simple board like this will give you an idea of the child’s skill level with AAC so you know what to try next.
