Phonological Awareness Screening Activity
Description: It’s a very good idea to know where each and every one of your literacy clients stands on phonological awareness. Sometimes we find older children who are already reading but are still struggling with phonological awareness. This quick screener will give you an easy way to document where each child stand on phonological awareness skills. Just mark emerging, progressing, or mastered for each of the following PA skills:
- Rhyming
- Syllable Segmentation
- Syllable Blending
- Same Initial Sound
- Same Final Sound
- Segmenting Words into Sounds
- Sound Blending
- Manipulating Sounds
- Letter-Sound Correspondence
Once you have an idea of where the child is, you can incorporate those missing phonological awareness skills into your other therapy tasks or target them directly.
