Building 3-Word Utterances Activity

Building 3-Word Utterances Activity

Description: Need to increase utterance length?  Try this simple activity!  Choose a starter phrase that you want the child to practice, such as “I want…” or “Throw ball…”.  Then, find some visuals that you can use to build the sentence.  Start with just having the child imitate and say the first word of the sentence, such as “I”.  Then, add one word, “I want”.  Finally, add a third word and then switch those words out.  The child will get multiple chances to practice the starter phrase and various fill-in words.  Another fun one is “Throw ball up, throw ball in”, etc.  Those will allow you to reinforce the utterance by doing something fun with a ball right after!
